Recital Publishing is an imprint of The Strange Recital podcast.
Reweirding the World
Recital Publishing aims to fill a gap in the publishing marketplace. We offer fiction that steps outside the standard tenets of realism.
Recital Publishing does not follow any particular genre format. “Science Fiction” or “Fantasy” are not accurate descriptions of our books, and “Literary” or “Mainstream” capture neither our slightly twisted taste nor our frequent rejection of conventional rules. Labels like “Slipstream,” "New Weird," and “Interstitial” have made attempts to describe such a space, but Recital Publishing is lodged into an even smaller crack. We like subtlety, ambiguity, and the surreal, smiles and grimaces. We follow the guideline of our podcast, The Strange Recital: “fiction that questions the nature of reality.” To us, that can mean almost anything. We know it when we see it.
We would have loved to publish Borges, Kafka, Bulgakov, Pynchon, Saunders, Marquez, Carrington, Barth, Barthelme, Calvino. But we also love Auster, Hustvedt, Brautigan, Nabokov, Markson, Sebald...
